Master in International Development Policy

The Master degree of International Development Policy at the United States Institute of Leadership and Diplomacy focuses on equipping student with transformational and divinely driven leadership skills. The program equip student with the rigorous analytical skills that are needed to generate solutions to the most pressing and complex policy challenges in developing and emerging economies.

When you graduate from Georgetown with an MIDP Program, you will be a different and distinctive development professional. Your CV will include a range of new and sought-after technical skills as well as the professional experiences gained during your summer work, your research work during the school years, and your work for a professional client.

In addition to its distinctive skill-based curriculum, the MIDP Program offers several other important advantages over alternative programs: students work together in a small cohort of likeminded young development professionals; core classes focus exclusively on international content, not US policy; core classes are taught primarily by the top Usild faculty with development interests; school funding for students’ summer placements help them secure valuable opportunities in top development institutions, including the World Bank, IFPRI, ORPE, and Restoring Dignity, and funding for travel facilitates placements in developing countries; students have the opportunity to work closely with and attend seminars hosted by gui2de, Georgetown’s development research center; and all client-capstone projects provide important hands-on experiential learning opportunities in development. This program is a designated STEM-eligible program (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics): International MIDP students with F-1 visas may apply to work in the United States for three years, two more than the standard 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) offered for graduates in non-STEM programs.

The public policy is a world of leadership that requires a leader to be vested with intellectual honesty. It is a world that requires a leader with the ability of advocating for causes and providing evidence in relation to theses causes. To be successfully, a leader must be familiar with a wide range of analytic methods. An urge to extract answers from the clutter of real-world public problems. Those are just some of the characteristics of someone who pursues the Master in Public Policy (MPP). It’s a rigorous two-year program that prepares you to understand complex problems and craft concrete solutions. Through courses, exercises and fieldwork, you master concepts and skills that draw on the social sciences but are adapted for action.

A defining feature of the MPP is its relevance: You can take what you learn here, apply it in the real world and deliver results.

Advancing Rule of Law, and Democracy

The public policy program at the United States Institute of Leadership and Diplomacy is  designed within the idea of strengthening democracies globally and empower local populations through an online civic engagement tool called Vote Compass: “When you aggregate data from an incredible amount of individuals in the population, you’re giving them a voice. Big data creates big possibilities.”

The Complete MPP

At the heart of the program is a core curriculum that lets you learn across a range of areas. Classes are taught using a combination of traditional lectures and the case method, which was pioneered at the United States Institute of Leadership and Diplomacy. You will work with tops faculty in a collaborative environment.

Deepen Your Impact

The MIDP Program has vocation of equipping students with the essential technical and analytical skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate policies and programs in developing countries. The MIDP supplements this focus on rigorous analysis with courses and professional work experiences that enhance your understanding and facility politics, management, and ethics that you need to navigate the professional challenges that are commonly encountered in the public sector and the international institutions that work with them. This is a STEM-eligible Program.
